Hamlet Direction - Zach & Danny - Sexy Time Scene

Act III, Scene II : Lines 63-83

At the beginning of the scene Ophelia should be turned away from Hamlet showing her rejection of his romance. Hamlet is alluding to his sexual desires for Ophelia in slow advanced as not to turn her away, his movements should be slow and encroaching upon her. The 2nd line should be like the movement. On line 66 Ophelia will look up from her feet abruptly, but walk away from without looking at him slowly and ghostly, a light escape. He is frustrated that he can't get access to the sanctuary in line 67 and is being extremely blunt. As it continues his getting extremely frustrated, while he still remains seductive and Hamlet encroaches further upon Ophelia, and even she is not looking at Hamlet she reacts to his movement uncomfortably and moves again quickly away from him. In line 71 Hamlet is suggesting that Ophelia has the same intimate thoughts that he has and suggests increasingly dirty diplomacy. He is trying to get her to think less logically and more carelessly, telling her to think of the pleasure the orgasm will bring to her. Because she is a virgin the newly minted action will be useful to her, a re-birth. Secretly he is trying to bring her into sin.

A+ Right?

Hamlet

Hamlet is have a battle of conscious and must act with intent but at the same time is questioning his actions. He should show a sense of thought about what he is about to do and should be truely analyzing the consequences of his actions. Hamlet should be sly and should not talk to maliciously.

Dear Doc - Hamlet

Dear Dr. Forman,

I was excited at the ability to write about lighting in some fashion. After watching the videos I chose were ones I felt I hated yet liked with enough specific elements where I had strong feelings about the choices made. Originally I was playing to cover set, lighting, costumes, and sound, as they all tend to be highly interconnected. Soon I realized that if I tried to Wright that much I would end up covering an insufficient amount of each topic. I also found that steering away from using tech lingo was important as it would either be way over the readers head or take too long to explain.

Sincerely,

Zachary

Hamlet Essay - Conclusion

In both versions of Hamlet, lighting attempts to extenuate the feelings of characters, making the audience become one with these feelings. The key balance between utilization of lighting to highlight key symbolic objects or moments and the creating mood without distracting from the action of the scene, presents itself as a problem in both versions of the movie. Hamlet, a play where simplistic appearances of characters clash with their complex intentions, commands a designer to engaging in the struggle for simplistic complexity.

Hamlet Essay - Body Paragraph 3

By combining the methods used in the two movies a director would achieve a much better result with lighting. By drawing the color pallet and intensities used in Zeffireli version the director would achieve a depressed and darkened mood that is extenuated from the characters’ feelings and opinions without being too bright. The dull tones of grays and whites and blacks will prove extremely successful in bringing the audience into the current atmosphere and set a somber tone within the space. Also, by replacing the lack of illumination of actors with a sufficient amount of illumination, making the actors visible, while maintaining the darker tone of the scene. Also, by replacing the extensive use of highlighting symbolic items with the unobtrusive lighting to set mood shown in the Almereyda’s version, retain the focus on the actors and the message they convey through their lines without the flashing arrows proclaiming, “symbol here” that highlighting this symbols provide.

Hamlet Essay Introduction

Bright and dark, warm and cool, these elements of lighting play a pivotal role in movies, manipulating the subconscious mind of the viewer into believing the fantasy of the director. Hamlet demands the best of a designer, the ability to create a space bright enough for camera but brining the darkness and gloomy air into the theatre and illuminating the minds of the audience to the subconscious messages of the play. In Zeffireli and Almereyda version of Hamlet the designers must balance the complex demands of lighting a show with a meaning that is difficult to over emphasize with the importance to minimize distractions to the audience, a challenge neither designer fully succeeds in alone.

Hamlet Essay Body Paragraph 2

Unfortunately, lighting can become a distraction to the message of the show by being too obvious, as well as, adding to the meaning and the purpose of the show. Lighting in many Shakespeare shows should be used with a touch of simplistic complexity, where the product the audience sees does not attract attention, but to achieve this look a vast array of equipment and techniques. _____’s modern rendition displays a level of this technique, keeping grays in the background, with a lack of color, providing few visual distractions for viewers to be distracted by. However, by not directly highlighting the actors in light, keeping them in dark shadows provides a major distraction. A viewer wants to see the actors face, not an outline, we are drawn away from the true message of the show only noticing the lack of light, not the deceptive nature of the lines. By doing so he violates the number one rule of lighting, keep the actors lit at all times when they are speaking. In-fact the gray of the background appears brighter and more vibrant than the actors bringing the attention in the scene towards the buildings. This effect also adds a simulated depth to the space causing the space to seem larger and the individuals smaller, one could compare this to the power of the state over the individual and how Claudius’ responsibility to the state is greater and sometimes opposing his own self-interest. However, the argument can be made that the brighter background causes the actors to ‘pop’ out of the background drawing attention to the difference in intensity and thus the actors. In Gibson’s version level tones provides a great monotone pallet, but

Hamlet Essay Body Paragraph 1

The intensity of light can set the time of day, the feelings of individuals and set areas of focus for audience members. The use of light to highlight objects that play a symbolic significance provides a tool to allude to different themes and foreshadow different parts of the show. In Mel Gibson's rendition of the show, a statue of a knight or solder, that Gertrude is holding on to, is in darkness; while, a maidenly statue further away is lit by a glorious white light shining through the windows. He uses the maiden statue to represent Gertrude's apparent innocence and lack of guilt in the situation. By holding onto the statue of the solder, she is reliant on the dark militancy, hence the dark statue, of Claudius. Gibson tends to use a bleak color pallet, remaining reserved to whites and ambers, creating a warm feeling within the room. However, by adjusting the intensity of the light he is able to create areas of dark intension and mystery and aspects of light and innocence. In _____'s modern interperatation of Hamlet the city environment is one of deep gloom and dispair, by restricting his use of colors to grays and dull whites, diffusions or silks. He maintains a atmosphere that hovers the attention around the actors. The audience members will view dull and dampended pallet as signifying the beginning of a rain storm or a gloomy day, which most people take to be gloomy and gives them a depressed or tired feeling draining the energy from the viewer. By encuring a depressed feeling within the audience members, _____ is able to extenuate the sadness of Hamlet to the people viewing the show.

Character Analysis: Hamlet - Act III

Throughout the act Hamlet's moral compass frequently checks his own actions, as he questions whether his actions are just and appropriate fulfilling only the task bestowed upon him. Or if his actions are greater than necessary and will create a moral burden and cause him to commit a sin, instead of the intended revenge. His increasing intensity of emotion and action cause such an unintended sin as Hamlet kills Polonius when he is discovered spying, mistaking him as his uncle.

Ethan Hawks

The modernization of the play does a disservice to the play as the additional noise and other modern elements of the movie create distractions to the audience. The height of the building behind the actors create a feeling the makes the actors appear smaller than they really are.

Favorite film post

The use of colors in all of the scenes either result in a dark color palett or a lighter color palett. The colors are either blacks, browns, and Greys. Or they are whites, tans, and blues. In all of the clips there was at least one element either costume or set that was a shade of deep blue. The darker the space the smaller the space seemed to feel and so the director filled the spaces that used darker color schemes with less people, where the lighter color schemes had sets that were filled with more people.

BBC 2010

The set and costumes are much darker  almost all scenery is black. With white lighting . Mom is the only one in blue and the mom appears much closer to the son. When the father walks there is the sound of his shoes clomping.

Kenneth Branagh

The setting is much more open and bright using much more white and golds instead of darker colors. The music is much more lullaby like and is much more somber and quite. The actors compliment the music by being much more emotional.  Hamlet is in black Gertrude is in white the king is in Red. The kind is looking up and speaking from a lower position and gets much closer to try to convince. They speak much louder to show public address and quiter to show private addresses.

Mel Gipson

The space is less grand and the garb is less grand. Much more intermite and the father touches son more. The nights in armor are are specifically lit; the lighting is more monicromatic. The mother changes in a white spot. When the solider statue is dark when the uncle is In the room and Gertrude holds on to that statue. While the female statue is I'm the light from outside.

BBC 1980

The colors of the space as well as Hamlet are blue thus expressing a somber more depressed mood. The king and queen are seated together. The fact that the space is small automatically creates tension and seating the court around the three creates the scene as a spectical. The king and queen are closer to each other. The son tends to be more sarcastic than in the other film. The lines of the floor tile are arranged in a line pointing from Hamlet to Gertrude and Claudius. This highlights the conflict between Hamlet and Gertrude and Claudius setting them as opposing and connected parties. The king and queen are the only individuals with red and gold on their cloths. This could present a suggestion of wealth and blood.

Laurence Olivier

Laurence Olivier was influenced by one of Frued's deciples and acted unded the influence of the edidpus cycle. The actors tend to look away and are angled away from the crowd and although the crowd looks at them they do not notice. The fathers distance from Hamlet specially creates a gap of status and position and produces a hire image of the father . The King speaks to the crowd not to Hamlet directly. The shot zooms in for his comversation with Hamlet and creates smaller space for Hamlet.

Polonius

At the beginning of the chapter polonius is encouraging the tainting of Hamlet's reputation. He does not want to hurt hamlet simply embarrass him

Socratic Circle

The ability for the class to quickly change the direction of the coversation and move to topic towards areas of our interested allowed for more interested and active analysis. For the class to go into areas; such as, how women and men view eachother is a topic that was extremely interesting but probably would not be reached.

1st Body (in progress)

Mr. Darcy, normally extremely proud and arrogant, begins to fall for (quote - eyes). Eyes, a symbol for truth, allude to Darcy surprisingly ignoring Elizabeth's lower social status and instead focusing on her true inner intelligence and beauty. The ball provides a forum for such attractions to develop, as without the gala Darcy may have never approached Elizabeth, forever turned away by her lesser socio-economic status. The ball also highlights Elizabeth's abhorrence of the currently marital system that tends to de-humize women and encourages emotional blindness and disappearing intellect in women. The intelligent sarcasm that she displays is, ironically, attractive to Darcy, as it displays to him a level of intelligence that could perhaps equal his own. Darcy is attracted to the point where he offers Elizabeth his hand to dance at the ball, an offer that to many women would be unthinkable to refuse. Yet, Elizabeth refuses the offer and by doing so she continues to display her intellectual equality and personal respect for herself. Darcy admires Elizabeth's respect for herself and her intellectual ability to do so as he views (higher intellect making one superior). However, while the balls offer Darcy an oppurtuntiy to be attracted to Elizabeth, she gathers a disdain for him and she gathers a tainted image of  Darcy. The rumors regarding Darcy and Mr. Wickham, portray Darcy as an abominable man who disregards his fathers will and harming an innocent Wickham. Balls offered a forum for the rumors, such as the rumor Elizabeth gathers about Darcy, to spread thoughout the community. As these galas became not only an event to lure potential suitors, balls also were social gatherings that gave the latest rumors and news a chance to spread throughout the rest of the community. During the novel's second ball the fact that Darcy was beginning to gravitate towards Elizabeth became apparent to her. These grand galas set relationships that would develop and Change over the course of the novel.

English Introduction

In English upper class society in the 1800's social galas; such as, balls were quite common social events, allowing the varing influential families of the area to gather and mingle. Often the grandest balls were held by the wealthiest and most influential individuals, each person trying to hold a grander ball than the last, a social arms race that could determine the marital fate of all children in the family. Balls were often used to signal to eligable males of the society that the daughter of the hosting family was being opened to suitors. It also created opertunities for women to entice the males at the gathering, in hopes of the wealthiest males finding interest in them and hopefully resulting in a marriage proposal. In Pride and Prejudice mingling of the influential individuals at the balls plays a vital role in determining the eventual courtships and biased conflicts that proceed in the rest of the novel.

Essay Main Idea and Question

"What is the importance of hosting balls in the process of getting married?"

The chance to meet large numbers of eligible men and socialize with them makes balls incredibly important to finding potential mates. it allows for women to entice males and try to swing their opinions in their favor.

All of the benett women meet their partners at their ball and it proves extremely important to the development of opinions between characters in the novel

D.W. Harding Opinion

Harding accurately identifies the importance and accuracy of Austin's criticisms of the British class structures in the 1800. Elizabeth's 'modern' attitude toward marriage, as Harding points out, juxtaposes Charlotte's eager acceptance of a marriage with Mr. Collins she is not particularly thrilled with. Also, most characters accept Lady Catherine De Burg's aragence towards others highlights the respect for those with wealth in society.

However, the novel is not a comedic depiction of these issues because of Austin's lack of interest in the issue, but it is comedic to prevent herself from being austricized by the very society she was writing about. This is criticle to understand when reading the novel, since understanding the reasoning behind her use of satire can change the reader's understanding of the author's view on the issues.

How to More Efficiently Use iPads in Classrooms

The main reason that iPads seem to fail in classrooms is student distraction. There are numerous other activities that students could be engaging in on the iPad that detract from their learning experience; such as, playing games or going on the internet. I believe that the ability to block those functions in the classroom without disabling them outside of the class in a manner where the students do not feel that their privacy is threatened is extremely important. I also believe that an increased level of faculty training in the basic functioning of such devices prior to their introduction into the learning environment would help lead to a smoother transition between paper classes and digital classes.

Pride and Prejudice Blocking

The scene where Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth shall be set indoors in the Bennet household. Mr. Collins should often invade Elizabeth's personal space, emitting a feeling of uncomfortably that Elizabeth has. Also he should behave in a snobbish manner often making 'interesting noises'. Finally, he should prevent Elizabeth's exit and block her at all times to quite literally trap her in the room. Elizabeth should act quite jittery as she desires to be anywhere but in the room. Elizabeth should take any opportunity where Mr. Collins moves out of her way to attempt to leave. Elizabeth must act in a manner to convey how uncomfortable she is.
