In this section of the novel, Gregor has been unable to calm the manager who left and then he was hurriedly harassed by his father back into his room where he was to remain from now on. They barakaded the door and locked the key to prevent any hope of Gregor escaping. His sister would left him a bowl of milk and bread the first night, which Gregor did not eat. In the morning his sister brought him a selection of foods of water for him to see what he would prefer. His sister shows true compassion for him regardless of his new form.
