In todays reading of Kafka Gregor engages in a standoff with his father who begins to throw apples at him, one which sticks in his back. This event causes a lowering of violence within the father, he isn't happy with Gregor but he learns to accept the reality of Gregor the Bug. As other members of the family must increase their workload they become less caring of him.
